Marantz CD5001

The Marantz CD5001 is a single disc capacity CD player that reads stereo tracks stored in 16-bit Liner PCM coding. This means that it can play audio from CD, CD-R, and CD-RW formats. The player uses 44.1kHz sampling and has a frequency response of 20Hz to 20kHz. Marantz CD5001

The Marantz CD5001 is a single disc capacity CD player that reads stereo tracks stored in 16-bit Liner PCM coding. This means that it can play audio from CD, CD-R, and CD-RW formats. The player uses 44.1kHz sampling and has a frequency response of 20Hz to 20kHz. It has a dynamic range of 100dB, a Signal-to-Noise (S/N) ratio of 110dB, and a Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of 0.0025%.

The player, which measures 17.31 x 3.50 x 12.50 and weighs 8.8 pounds, is available in black with an aluminum front panel. It features a dot matrix FL display which can be turned on or off. This display shows CD text (which often includes artist name and song titles) whenever it is available. Along with each standard package of the Marantz CD5001 comes a RC5400CD dedicated device remote to control playback from a distance.

The CD5001 features premium digital-to-analog converters including the Super Audio CD Grade 192kHz/24-bit Cirrus Logic CS4392 D/A Converter. It also comes with an upgraded headphone amplifier with a buffer circuit.

Some of the features of the Marantz CD5001 include peak search, random play, repeat play, and pitch control functions. It can also be used either in recording edit mode or Auto Music Scan (AMS) mode.

The CD5001 has several gold plated outputs for a variety of connections. These include one Analog L&R Out, one Digital Optical Out, one Digital Coaxial Out and one headphone out. Whenever headphones are in use with the Marantz CD5001, headphone levels can be controlled.

    Ordinarily, a product that’s been around as long as this one is one step away from the knacker’s yard. The market for inexpensive CD players being what it is, though – moribund – the Marantz is still soldiering on.     I am having my higher end tube model serviced and was curious to find out for myself how this very nice looking and well finished entry level Marantz player compared. When I first listened to the 5001 I perceived the mid range to be on the grainy side. The vocals also sounded too pulled back and too airy.
