Super-small and offering great video quality for well-lit subjects, the HDC-SD9 is a very good camcorder that records in a hard-to-edit format. Read more

The Panasonic HDC-SD9 has two primary attributes—low price and small size. Its video quality is good, but not great. It has limited onboard connectivity, and handling is at the bottom of the totem pole. We’ve watched Panasonic get aggressive on this size issue, for better or for worse. Those who want cheap HD and small size will fall in love with the Panasonic HDC-SD9. Others may want to spring for the Canon HF10. Read more

The Panaosnic HDC-SD9 will appeal to those who want a camcorder to fit their tech-chic lifestyle. It’s extremely compact, solid state, and high definition – three assets that will serve it well with teh jet set crowd. The improvements since the first generation are impressive: now recording in full 1920 x 1080 with an increased bit rate of 17Mbps, a more powerful image optical stabilizaiton system, and cool features like the Pre-Record function. 3. It's fairly decent for a tapeless camcorder

It records audio natively to 5.1, which is useful if you're creating DVDs with AC3 5.1 sound. A limitation of the technology (the FAT32 file format) means that your files are broken up into 4GB chunks for long recording sessions. Every time this happens you loose about 10 frames effectively. You can work around it, but you have to remember to turn off the recording and turn it back on every 30 to 40 minutes which is tedious. Read more
