Could anyone recommend a good basic camcorder for recording a growing family? I would like it to be in the $300-$400 range with good lighting and good audio capabilities. Personal experience as well as good reviews would be great! Thanks much. Christmas item.

Help! Mini DV camcorder advice. Most bang for the buck
I have been researching mini dv camcorders for quite awhile now, and cant seem to find any info on what exactly Im looking for. I want something decent, but on the inexpensive end for filming skateboarding, and snowboarding. The mini dv's are most likely the format Im looking into because their size. I dont want an expensive camera, as I wouldnt want to destroy it. So Im asking you, the experts, what is the most bang for the buck, image stabilizer equipped, A/V in/out, firewire, mini dv camcorders I should consider?? Thanks in advance, this has been kind of a nightmare.

What does the zoom measurement on camcorders (& digital cams)...
What does the zoom measurement on camcorders (& digital cams) really eman?
In the past a non-digital camera with a 50mm lens showed what is seen with the naked eye without any wide-angle or telephoto. However, nowaways, when a camcorder (& dig. cam) indicates that it has a 10x zoom what does that really mean? Is it really bringing the image 10x closer? And where is that measured from? Is it measured from the midpoint between the most WIDE setting and the extreme TELEPHOTO setting? Or is it measured from the most WIDE setting? IF it's measured from the most WIDE setting then a 10x does NOT bring an object 10x closer. If anything it might bring the object 5x closer since it's starting way back a the widest image setting possible. So, what is the truth about the zoom measurement on camcorders (and dig. cams)?

I need help choosing a camera
I want to buy a camcorder or palmcorder asap (don't know the diff.) and need help. I often tape in an auditorium with low light and I tape kids athletic events (indoors and out.) But I'm so tired of all the weight of my present camera when we go somewhere. So I want something I can easily stick in my purse, that's not heavy, that has good sound pick-up, does well in dim light. But if it costs too much, I won't be able to afford to go anywhere to use it anyway. Can somebody tell me the best bang for the buck please?
