Review Summary

The Canon PowerShot SX100 IS is equipped with an optically stabilized 10x zoom lens with a Digic III image processor, an upgraded face detection system, a 2.5-inch LCD screen, and with a 36mm-360mm zoom. One of its biggest attractions is its compact size, but not that small if compared with the smaller megazooms like the H3 and the TZ3. It weighs 11 ounces and fit into a jacket pocket. However, it uses the same 8-megapixel sensor and 2.5-inch LCD as the S5 IS. The 8-megapixel Canon PowerShot SX100 IS is …

The 8-megapixel Canon PowerShot SX100 IS is user friendly and impresses on the good quality of its pictures. The design of the camera makes it easy to handle and figures among the new line of compact ultra-zoom digital cameras. However the Canon PowerShot SX100 IS performance is a bit slow. It wakes and shoots in a reasonable 2 seconds. Its shutter lags for high and low contrast scenes, 0.5 second and 1.7 seconds, respectively. But the shot time increases to 4.3 seconds as soon as the flash is on. The LCD is good, but cannot be easily seen in bright sunlight. On the other hand what the camera lacks in speed is covered up by the photo quality. The camera’s photo quality especially at higher ISO sensitivity settings, is better compared to other cameras, the snaps look sharp. It also contains a full set of manual exposure controls; optical image stabilization and electronic lens cover. Even though it gives the best photo quality, the Canon PowerShot SX100’s slow performance, disappointing movie capture, and its monotonous design keep it from being a photographer’s delight. The camera has no optical zoom in movie capture and can be accidentally clicked when navigating. Due to being easy to handle and its affordable price, it is attracting many buyers, although it uses batteries very fast.

The SX100 IS is a bit of a wallflower, both in terms of design and specification. It is not ugly, but it certainly won't turn any heads either, it has a fairly good spec and feature set but nothing that we haven't seen somewhere else before. 'Solid' is probably the best way to describe the performance of this latest addition to the Canon Powershot range. The SX100 IS performs well in (almost) all areas but there is hardly anyhing exceptional about it. Canon describes the... Read more

The Canon PowerShot SX100IS offers a great value in an affordable, feature-rich long zoom digital camera that's user friendly and still reasonably compact. With an 8.0-megapixel CCD image sensor, the Canon SX100 IS has great image quality so long as there's plenty of light. Things get a little rougher in poor lighting as you need to ratchet up the ISO sensitivity, but is no worse than most of the competition in this respect. The combination of full auto for beginners and... Read more

Canon PowerShot SX100 IS is a super-zoom camera. It has 8 megapixels and a 10x optical zoom. If PowerShot SX100 differs from many other cameras, he is small. Yet still has a good selection of features, including the instructions of the exhibition. I see this camera to take any person who loves photography and is interested to learn, without regard for the topic would be an account of the season expert.Taking PowerShot SX100 SE is on the right track. The Canon Powershot SX100 IS is the second digital camera I have owned. My fiance purchased it for me as a gift and I have to say, I love it! Previously, I had been using my Sony Powershot (can't remember the specific model, but it is 4 years old) With the medications I'm on, I have twitches and shaky hands, so snapping a somewhat clear photo is nearly impossible for me. So when I was looking for a camera, I was looking specifically for a camera with an image stabalizer.... Read more

Tolle Kompaktkamera, gutes Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis, breiter Zoombereich. Read more

I recently purchased the Canon Powershot sx100. It was a replacement for my old 5 megapixel Kodak camera. I had lost the zoom lens for the Kodak camera and after being told that it would cost almost the value of the camera to repair, I decided to look for something comparable. The Kodak camera had a 10x optical zoom which is a feature that I wanted to keep. A salesperson suggested the Canon because the zoom was the same and the megapixel count was great at 8 megapixels....
