Packing an optically image-stabilized long zoom into a small package, the Panasonic TZ5 quite similar to its predecessor, the TZ3. Most of the features that made the TZ3 so popular are carried forward, including the high quality lens. Images produced by the camera are generally quite good when you stick to conservative settings. When you consider the Panasonic TZ5's 10x span from a 28mm wide angle to 280mm equivalent, corner sharpness is better than expected, and... Read more
Journalists covering the digital camera industry seemed to be almost universally disappointed that Panasonic didn't, for the second update in a row, listen to their pleas to include more user exposure control on the next TZ camera. The TZ3 sold well, and many of those same kinds of users will continue to find the TZ5 appealing. Even so, I can't help but feel that Panasonic missed an easy opportunity to become even more dominant in its fairly small peer group by simply... Read more
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 ($350) is the follow-up to the highly popular DMC-TZ3 compact ultra zoom, which was introduced to much praise last year. That camera offered a 10X, 28 - 280 mm lens with image stabilization in a midsize body, along with a host of point-and-shoot features. Read more
With the TZ5, Panasonic offers a product which nicely embodies serious construction, appreciable compactness, a versatile and useful (stabilized) zoom, nice image quality and a high definition video mode. An excellent finished product for which there is no equivalent with the competition (at this time). Read more
While the step from the TZ1 to the TZ3 was quite a big one the upgrade from TZ3 to TZ5 is more evolutionary. The main changes are an increased megapixel count, a higher resolution screen, and an improved movie mode, now offering HD quality output. The newest member of the TZ family, like its predecessor, is a fast and extremely versatile camera that is also compact enough to carry it anywhere you go, and it's now even more fun to use. The 28-280mm 10x zoom makes the TZ5... Read more
I use this camera for everyday photography. This camera has a great zoom and thus it makes a perfect travel camera for me. It has some small defects as noise at base ISO, bad audio quality in HD Video recording mode, less battery backup. But overall it is the only 10x optical zoom camera in such a small form factor, with decent image clarity and fine detail. Read more
I just got this camera and it is awesome. The 3 display makes a world of difference. 10x optical, 4x digital zoom is great. We used to have a sony digital camera and any fast action shots were blurry. I took a picture of my son moving very fast and there was no blur whatsoever. Plus we dont really need to take a video camera with us anymore because this camera will record video in HD. It has to be the best camera out there for the money. Read more
I wanted a compact camera with a good range zoom, hd video mode, great manual controls (with a good auto mode) & a larger LCD - and of course great photo capabilities. Well, a camera like that just doesn't exist at the time of this review. The TZ5 is what I would consider the closest thing without breaking the budget. I have used it for a few weeks, nearly non stop...here is my breakdown in order of most importance. PROS -- 1. the 10x Zoom is fabulous, especially with a... Read more
The overall quality of the camera and the pictures it takes is very good. The poor ergonomics, specifically is the large control knob on the top. It gets moved accidentally very easily and It could've been recessed. Before you buy, handle this camera in a store first. Overall, it has lots of great features and is very easy to use. I wouldn't buy another one because of the knob. Read more
Great camera but s little too bulky.I wish they would make it more sleek. Different colors would make it more feminine.Disadvantages are are hard to keep in your pocket-ideally would be perfect if it were the same as a cell phone dimensions.Prices vary at every store.Electronics should be pretty close in price. It is definitely not value for money.Great for the guys and i know my husband loves it.If he had to get another one he probably would go for it but in my case i am...
