In the end Dead or Alive 2 comes close to topping Soul Calibur, but doesn't quite hit it's mark (at least not like it did on the PlayStation 2). This has the workings for a classic fighting game, as well as some of the most innovative features in current fighting games, but it has a little more work to go before it's perfected. Tecmo's Dead or Alive was released back in 1996 for both the Sega Saturn and the Sony PlayStation. Being based on Sega's own Model 2 engine (which was previously used for Daytona USA, Fighting Vipers, and Virtua Fighter 2), it was no surprise that this game looked like its arcade predecessor on the Saturn. Team Ninja has made one of the finest fighting games to date. Dead or Alive 2 is a beautiful fighting game in every meaning of the word. The game looks great, plays great, and has enough personality to pull it to the top of the Dreamcast fighting library. Read more
OVERALL: This is a game you should likely own if you're a fighting fan, or you want a game that looks good and plays fairly well. But, if you want a 3D fighting game that will last you a long time, you should probably look at Soul Calibur instead. Read more
