Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates has felt for some like it's been a lo-o-o-o-o-ng time coming. In fact, it was announced all the way back at E3 in 2004 and has taken until March 2008 to hit UK shores. The game is the second in the series, following up 2004's Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles on the GameCube in what's shaping up to be a Nintendo exclusive FF offshoot. Essentially, you've got a streamlined version of the original game with a multiplayer... Read more

When Nintendo and Square-Enix kissed and made up in 2004, the resulting game was Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. In thought, Crystal Chronicles mixed up the personalities of both companies perfectly. The game itself was a cooperative multiplayer dungeon crawl-fest, similar to Gauntlet or Legend of Zelda: Four Swords. It mixed the Final Fantasy flavor into colorful, kid-friendly graphics, threw in a few obsolete peripherals, and called itself the most innovative thing... Read more

Ring of Fates will be better received by Final Fantasy fanatics than others because, well, it's a Final Fantasy game after all. But the harsh reality is that the excellent story is rather let down by the constricting control scheme. With games like The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword showing what can be done when developers put their minds to it, it's hard to be sympathetic. Still, there is fun to be had here. Disappointingly, the game... Read more

This is a more simplified and arcadey presentation of Final Fantasy than we’re used to, but I can’t say that it’s all bad. In fact, the hack n’ slash action can be pretty entertaining, particularly for new RPG players looking to enter the genre for the first time. Dungeons are large, but their design sometimes feels a little haphazard. Melee combat is satisfying while the magic system is peppered with problems. Aiming spells takes too long and the damage output... Read more

I bought this expecting something better. It was good, but i sort of got lost. I never beat it because I stopped playing for a while and forgot what to do. It was fun but got repeatative and I lost intrest. I still think that it is worth buying. If I could, I would give it a 3.5. Read more
