   In the gaming library there is no greater series, in both sales and critical acclaim, than the Mario platforming series. The New Super Mario Bros somehow manages to measure up to that legacy. It’s got the charm, the polish, the controls, the variety and ingenuity that we expect from a game with the Mario Bros name and, for such an old formula (dating back to the first one in 1985), still manages to be fresh and interesting.    As the title suggests this is a completely new Super Mario Bros game, this is not a port of an older game with new features, it’s completely new. The story is very simple, while princess peach is enjoying a nice walk with Mario; suddenly peach’s castle is attacked.    As a huge fan and guru of old-school 2D platforming, I don't think Nintendo could have released a new Super Mario which would have precisely met my expectations. I mean, it's Mario!    Mario and Nintendo are two words that go hand in hand. Every single one of Nintendo’s consoles has had a major game starring their red plumber mascot Mario and it’s easy to see why.    "NEW Super Mario Bros" would be a no-brainer 5/5 if it were not for the stupid save system. It forces you to play the game too fast, and also means that you are unable to just pick up and play, which is a great shame. If you could save after every level, the game would be easier, yes, but I like to take my time, and I don't always want to be forced to play for 20 minutes or more, EVERY TIME.    Mario games have been around for years, but none of them can compete with the original side-scrolling adventure games that focused on simple platforming gameplay and collecting power ups.
