Pros & Cons

  • gorgeous graphics and sound, did for midair control, useful map marking function, the usual zelda characters, sequels that make significant
  • weak soundtrack, somewhat shallow multiplayer, multiplayer feels tacked on, especially on boss battles, repetetive locations and dungeons

If you haven't ever played a Zelda title before (you have missed a lot but I know many gamers who haven't) this is a pretty good example of what the series has to offer. The scope of the title isn't as epic as many of its console brethren but it offers a good amount of solid gameplay, quirky humor and collections tasks. As with many Zelda titles, the game isn't to replayable and sadly Phantom Hourglass is a fairly short adventure. That being said, it is a fantastic... Read more

Think of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass as Wind Waker: Episode 2 for your DS, right down to the sailing through cell-shaded prettiness. Don't be hasty and write off Phantom Hourglass because of its accessibility. Where hardcore gameplay is shaved off, pleasing diversity replaces it. A pocket-sized adventure it lives up to the captivating quality of its predecessors. There's remarkable scope for a handheld in this game, and the fifteen or so hours of gameplay are layered with... Phantom Hourglass is an ambitious first Zelda for the DS, but it lands far behind previous handheld titles in the series. Hopefully the inevitable sequel will nix the irritating parts like sailing and over-use of the touch-screen and focus on the good elements, like the map notations and creative item applications. This is the best only Zelda on the DS, and it’s one of the better games on the system when sailing with the rest of the library. However, when it’s... Read more

You can't really mess with the Zelda franchise. And why is that? Zelda is huge. There have been 14 official Zelda games on Nintendo consoles and that's without counting spin-offs. Zelda, Link and othe ... [ Read more

Before Twilight Princess there was The Wind Waker, a charming GameCube adventure that was considered a masterpiece by some and a disappointment by others. A big factor in the factioning of opinions was the graphics style of the two games, with Wind Waker using a cel-shaded look reminiscent of animated Disney films. Phantom Hourglass is a sequel to the Wind Waker, so for this adventure the cel-shaded art style has been retained. This time there’s no use arguing which... Read more
