The Samsung DVD-F1080 is a DVD player that measures 9.4 x 2.0 x 9.6 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 2.2 pounds. It comes in a black enclosure color and features a sleek and compact design.

The DVD-F1080 outputs video and audio at full HD 1080p resolution and also features upscaling. The player also features multi progressive scan output (PAL/NTSC) ensuring clear digital images. It comes equipped with a 14-bit video digital-to-analog converter with video processing running at 108MHz. Through is digital-to-analog converter, the player is able to produce up to 16,384 color values and its video processing speed allows for digital noise reduction.

It supports playback of DVD+R, CD, CD-RW, DVD-RW, CD-R, DVD+RW, Kodak Picture CD, DVD, DVD-R, VCD, and SVCD media types as well as MPEG-4, DivX, WMA, and MP3 digital media standards. It also supports JPEG photo playback. When searching through videos, the player’s speed can be set to 32x, 128x, 8x, or 2x.

The Samsung DVD-F1080 comes equipped with a 24bit / 192kHz audio digital-to-analog converter. It has a Dolby Digital output and has settings for surround sound. It has a signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) of 110dB, a dynamic range of 100dB, a total harmonic distortion of 0.004%, and a frequency response from 4 Hz to 22 kHz at a 48 kHz sampling and from 4 Hz to 44 kHz at a 96 kHz sampling.

Apart from an HDMI output, the DVD-F1080 offers other terminals for component video, composite video, and coaxial digital audio.

    We had to check that this was indeed a standard DVD player and not a portable. The dimensions, curves and finish are in line with Samsung 's home cinema in a box systems. It all makes for a small, easily accommodated machine.     Be aware - you will not benefit from the upconverting feature of this unit unless you connect it to an HD TV with an HDMI cable. My Samsung HD TV has only one HDMI input which I am using for my satelite box so I had to connect the F1080 with component cable. This limits my resolution to 480i (standard definition).
