Sony's Playstation portable is first and foremost a games machine, with video playback coming second in the pecking order. However, with its own UMD disc format, Sony is obviously serious about video on the PSP. That said, the failure of UMD to grab the public’s attention means most people will watch MPEG-4 movies on a PSP via MemoryStick Duo. And with 8GB cards costing as little as £80, it offers a good-value storage option. This new slimmed-down PSP is better than... Read more
The only other concern we’ve had is with fingerprints. The PSP’s gloss black finish is like a magnet to them no matter how clean your hands, and it can get ridiculously frustrating if only because you’ll become so attached to it that any kind of tarnish will inevitably be cause for concern. Our advice? Invest in a decent case and carry bag – there are myriad available from a wide range of manufacturers. In fact, outside of the ubiquitous iPod , the PSP has... Read more
Who wouldn't love a console that looks like a $500 ultra-modern and cool device, has Sony behind it, a great list of rollout titles and a widescreen that can't be beat? Throw in movie playback, an MP3 player, stereo, a photo viewer, stereo output, standard 802.11b WiFi and geat gaming ergonomics, Sony is taking the market in new directions. If you wonder what may make Sony different than the rest that have tried in the past, Sony makes Sony different. They have the... Read more
Using the PSP is a lot of fun. It is a great little gadget to have with you anywhere, while you're waiting at the airport, while on your lunch break, even at school! It is very easy to use and the included web browser and WiFi capability is awesome. If you purchase an extra Memory Stick Duo you can watch movies and listen to music from the PSP so it is more than just playing games. The games I tested with the system were a lot of fun, but it seemed they were some of the... Read more
Please allow me to use a quote from the podcast: "The PSP is like a BMW". I couldn't agree with it more. When I look and feel and play on my PSP , I feel like I have been sitting and driving in a luxury car, straight from Germany, with expensive clothes made by…ok, you get the idea, right? Right. As someone who is a bit older than most active video game fanatics, I have experienced the "back in the day" systems of NEO GEO and the Original Game Boy. These always brought me a lot of joy as a youth, and I still think fondly back to ... Read more
I have owned my PSP since the actual day it came out on the market. It still performs like new, even the buttons and controls work like new. And that is 100's of hours later. The only issue I have is the typical long wait time for most games to load, as compared to a DS, but when you realize the quality of the game in such a small package, I think that is understandable. One of the many great features of the PSP is that you can turn it off at any time, and when you turn... Read more
