We liked this video card a lot. Not only because this particular model from Sapphire comes with a liquid cooling solution pre-assembled, but also because of its good performance for its price point. On 3DMark06, which simulates DirectX 9.0c (Shader 3.0) games, Atomic HD 3870 achieved a performance similar to GeForce 9800 GX2 and was a little bit faster than the new and expensive GeForce GTX 280 (5%-9%) when no image quality enhancements were enabled, but when we enabled... The HD 3870 X2's greatest strength is smooth FPS. Even when the frame rate is low, the frames are whole and the lows aren't that low after all. It's definitely not a gimmick. ATI perfectly executed this dual-GPU marvel. The drivers don't need your input, they just Still, I'm not totally sold on the X2. I think it has two places: Micro-ATX cases and in CrossFireX. So why not just get two 3870s and rub a little CrossFire into your box? There are two reasons, really. For most people, that's just not an option. Dual-PCI-Express can easily tag a Benjamin... Read more
: As you can see the 3870 X2 did pretty well, but my CPU was holding me back to obtaining a better score. Besides that though there is a difference between using the Catalyst 8.3 and 8.4 drivers. The 8.4 did a lot better overall, lacked in some areas, but for the most part it did good. The 8.4 may have made the card perform better, but ATI left the drivers a bit buggy for me. However there are just some updated beta drivers and not the final release, so just maybe ATI... Read more
Read more
