  1. Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 USM L IS

Regarding its equivalent zoom range (39-168mm) on an APS-C DSLR the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 USM L IS may not be the most sexy lens here but its performance figures are very impressive nonetheless. In fact the resolution results beat those from the EF 24-70mm f/2.8 USM L and match the EF 28-70mm f/2.8 USM L with its much more conservative zoom range (but higher speed). There's a slight decrease in performance at 105mm but even here the quality remains on a very high level.... Read more

Out of Focus Light Patterns There are minimal differences in the patterns of out of focus background lights among the lenses. The 24-70 produces the smoothest out of focus backgrounds (bokeh). The 28-135 shows hexagonal aperture out of focus lighting pattern. All tests were run at about 70mm. Read more

  3. Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM Lens Review

    25 September 2008

Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM is a very solid lens. On APS-C cameras, the lens becomes an interesting medium telephoto zoom lens. For full-frame dSLRs this is however a fantastic standard zoom. The build quality is very solid.  Overall performance varies from exceptional at the wide focal length to average at telephoto length. The lens adds a solid 4.4x zoom, which some will find quite handy. Image stabilizer is an another bonus here, making the overall package quite... Read more

  4. Canon 24-105mm f/4L

This is Canon's highest performance professional midrange zoom for film, full-frame and 1.3x digital cameras . The Canon 24-105mm f/4L has great optics and works extremely well. My biggest whine is that the zoom ring takes a lot of effort and that the wide end of the zoom range is cramped , making it difficult to set wide focal lengths precisely. It's silly to use this on a 1.6x sensor camera like the Rebels and 30D because 1.) you're paying a premium for large-sensor... Read more

This is an EF lens, casting an image circle large enough to cover a 24x36mm piece of film or the sensor in Canon's more expensive "full-frame" digital SLRs. The camera will work fine on a small-sensor body, but you will be carrying around more lens than you need and the focal length will be a "slighty-wide-to-telephoto" range. Read more

This was my first "L" lens. I bought it to replace my 5 year old Canon 28-135 which was first generation IS and starting to get noisy and vibrate. The 24-105 seems to be a winner so far. There's a reason this optic costs $1000+ as opposed to the 28-135 which costs half that. Image quality is supurb, for a zoom. The overall build and zoom/focus rings are silky smooth. The Image Stabilization really lets you pull off some amazingly low shutter speeds handheld. This is a... Read more

  2. Great lens, but make sure you know what is in the box

I purchased this lens to replace my 28-135mm lens. The 28-135mm served me well but I have been quite pleased with other Canon L lenses and decided to upgrade. I shoot photographs to submit to competitions and so I wanted the additional sharpness that L lenses can give. My first impression of this lens is that the focus is a bit soft, but I have been shooting indoors and may be seeing the limitation of the f4. This is something to consider if you shoot indoors. In this... Read more
