    February 24, 2006 - I have to reiterate that this review is merely about my sample of the 17-35 lens and one should not expect that all other samples to perform similarly on digital at the wider focal lengths, at or near wide open aperture. My sample of the lens is possibly an early production sample that were known to have been afflicted by QA issues. New lenses are suppose to be just fine.     Perfect lens. It's on my d300 90% of the time. Only wish it had VR but, that would only add to the heavy weight of this thing. Read more

    This lens has rewritten many a rule about wide-angle photography. In my opinion the shear complication of its construction makes it prone to sample-to-sample variation more than many other lenses. I had this problem - even though I sent my lens to Nikon for adjustment of focus and CA's, it didn't come back perfect. My D200 easily picks fault with it at 100% magnification.
