In January, Nikon replaced their Nikkor 60mm f2.8 adding some excellent elements to help control the aberrations, which is indeed a world class first for the SLR micro lens. With its silent wave motor and ED glass lens elements as well as the latest in Nano Crystal Coat technology Nikons replacement lens has brought this lens upward to make it one of the top in its class.

Nikons new micro lens will let the serious photographer shoot their 1:1 life sized close up without the necessity of additional accessories such as are needed with other lenses of this variety.

They’ve assured the picture quality from nearly any distance, from face on out to the infinite by the addition of a wide array of state of the art optical features that are specific to the Nikon corporation.

Using two a-spherical lenses to correct the spherical aberration and the coma, Nikon then added a Nano crystal coat to help reduce their ghosting and the flare that was caused by the internal reflection, coming up with a lense that is a world’s first for any interchangeable micro-lens for the SLR.

In addition, the adding of the ED glass element makes it possible for the Nikkor to deliver far better resolution and breathtaking high contrast imaging.

The image reproduction of the AF-S Micro NIKKOR 60mm f/2.8G ED is simply stunning. Their silent Wave motor, built into the body of the lens offers you fast and nearly silent auto focusing and adds mileage to the already lightweight and compact lens.

Focus modes that it offers include Manual-priority Auto which lends itself well to the rapid change from auto to manual focus with nearly no time lag

They also include the rounded nine-blade diaphragm opening which helps to make those things which are out of focus look a lot more softened and natural looking to make them stand out less in the image.

The major features of the AF-S Micro NIKKOR 60mm f/2.8G ED include:

Nearly silent fast auto focus.

The IF design lets you focus without changing the length of the barrel

Lens aberration has been minimized by the addition of the two lens elements.

Extremely fast switching between auto focus and manual focus.

Extra Low dispersion glass makes the chromatic aberration literally dissappear while giving you higher resolution.

Close up focus distance of about 8 inches.

Nine blade diaphragm makes objects that are out of focus look far more natural.

Can also accept 62 mm filters.

At a very reasonable 550 USD for this kind of technology, what’s not to love?

"I love this lens-it is my favorite, thus far!!! I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a wonderful macro or micro lens, and it is also wonderful for portraits. However, do not be fooled by the "VR" that Best Buy has added to the description...it's not there. Not that it is needed, but buyer beware." Read more
