The Apple iPod Video / 5th Generation can not be considered an upgrade for the music buff. It is very pleasing to the eye and simple to operate. In basically looks great and produces even better sound and it is more slender even at the 60 GB capacity than prior units. But the primary upgrade here is the option to play video. The unit’s screen is an upgrade over other generation iPods. Ultimately, if your primary thought is to have a music player than also happens to play video, the 5th generation will be most satisfying. That said, be sure to understand that downloading and playing video is not as simple or as straightforward as it is for music.

The iPod 5G can display many photos directly from a digital camera through an accessory called the iPod Camera Connector. As opposed to earlier iPod models, the 5th generation also supports video playback. The 30 GB model holds 14 hours of music, 3 hours of slides, or 2 hours of video. With the 60 GB unit you get approximately 30% additional storage. If you are upgrading from a previous iPod, you will already have AAC encoded files and won’t want to convert them into WMA format. In addition, if you have already purchased accessories such as docks, a remote and car integration options, the unit is again the perfect next step. The primary advantages are continued improvement in battery life and in screen brightness. The unit has many new features including instant search options and some enhances games. However, there still is no FM radio option, so no recording of on air materials, and its screen is still too small to be truly conducive to watching videos. And the proprietary USB cable makes it tough to justify switches from other products. All in all, this low-priced, updated Apple product is an excellent overall value. But if you are looking primarily for a video player, this unit is simply not what you want to go with.

So, the iPod appears once more, in yet another incarnation. Given the success of the player over the years, we wouldn't expect Apple to revolutionise its product, and so it proves. This is more of a gentle evolution. This new, fifth-generation iPod is thinner than its predecessor – it's only 10.5mm deep. It comes with an attractive, anodized aluminium and polished stainless steel enclosure with rounded edges. Two finishes are available: black and silver, and these... Read more

I have to say I'm very impressed by the iPod Video. Apple has created a near perfect portable media player. The audio is great, and the video playback is great! There are always negatives, but the iPod Video is probably the closest to a perfect portable media player on the market. It does what it is intended to do, and does it incredibly well! For this reason I have to give it a near perfect score. As shown by the success of video sales on iTunes, Apple could very well... Read more

As much as I hate to admit it, I actually like using the iPod Video. As a diehard small market MP3 player user, it's hard for me to admit that. It's also difficult to nit pick a player that has been out for so long, has been redesigned and upgraded multiple times and is the most successful MP3 gadget in history. When it comes to design, content and community the iPod is a tough competitor. The iPod's sleek styling and clever interface are both simple and brilliant. In... Read more

The 5th generation Apple iPod, or sometimes known as the iPod Video and that's how we'll refer to it throughout the review, just might be the best iPod that we've seen from Apple. They added lots of features and slimmed the device down in size compared to the already great 4th generation Apple iPod. Perhaps the most prized features of the 5th generation iPod is the video playback capability. Our full review will break down the iPod Video for you feature-by-feature to... Read more

We bought the 30 GB right after it came out and have not had a single problem. We use it daily with thousands of pictures, music and video files. We even bought software to put movies on it. I feel this is way better than the Zune that my friend has. The thumbwheel control took a day or so to get use to but is a breeze now. I highly recommended this Read more

I decided to get an ipod after a freind of mine had one and it was not a dissapointment. Even after all the use ive gotton out of it, it still works like its brand new right out of the box. I must have thousands of hours of listening on this. In my opinion itunes is great but a dollar per song is a little much. Unfortunetely watching movies on this is completely impractical with a 2.5 inch screen. Tv shows are ok but its really good to watch music videos. For movies the... Read more
