The 6th Generation Apple iPod Classic was released on September 5, 2007 and was the first generation to feature an anodized aluminum front plate rather than the previous models’ polycarbonate plastic material.
The 6th Generation Apple iPod Classic measures 4.1 x 2.4 x 0.41 inches and weighs 4.9 ounces. It comes with a built-in Li-ion battery that takes about 4 hours to charge. The 80 gigabyte version can last up to 30 hours of audio playback and up to 5 hours of video playback while the 160 gigabyte version can last up to 40 hours of audio playback and 7 hours of video playback.
The gadget features a 2.5-inch QVGA (320 x 240 pixels) full color LCD display with LED backlight. It is available in 80 and 160 gigabyte versions in either silver or black. The silver color of this generation replaced the brand’s “Signature iPod White” color.
Apple approximates that the 160 gigabyte version can store up to 40,000 audio files and 200 hours of video files. It supports skip-free playback of a number of audio formats including AAC, protected AAC (from iTunes Store), MP3, MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3, and 4), Apple Lossless, WAV, and AIFF. It also supports a large number of video formats. Apart from this, the device can also be used to sync up to 25,000 iPod-viewable photos. The gadget also features the “Cover Flow” interface for managing and flipping through files and digital media using cover art.
The 6th Generation Apple iPod Classic is compatible with Mac OS X v10.4.8 or later with iTunes 7.4 or later installed. It can be also used with Windows Vista or Windows XP Home or Professional with SP2 or later.
See lessIt would be difficult to make a “Best Of” list without mentioning Apple’s iPod Classic . As you may be aware, the Apple iPod has achieved iconic status throughout the world. The sixth generation iPod released earlier this year offers an amazing amount of storage … 160 GB to be exact. This is serious storage! Since iTunes movies take about 1.5 GB of space, this amount of storage is great news for you movie addicts out there. Another great, and perhaps obvious,... Read more
by Christopher Breen , Playlist Magazine When the iPod classic and third-generation (3G) iPod nano were first released, many reviewers (including me and my colleague, Dan Frakes) noticed that the two new iPods sported a more-colorful and helpful interface—but we also noticed that interface could be sluggish when drawing artwork. This slow behavior was most noticeable on the iPod classic, most likely for two reasons. With its greater storage capacity—80GB and 160GB... Read more
The globally popular Apple iPod video has been updated with a new face, a new interface, higher storage capacity and even a new name. It's now called the iPod classic, which may sound like a name that would be given to a low end model, but this isn't the case with the new iPod classic. This classic may not be tiny like the new "fatty" nano , or have a touch screen like the new iPod touch. But neither of those devices are available in capacities of 80 or 160GB, enabling... Read more
The Apple iPod Classic is a nice evolutionary step in iPod design aimed at previous generation owners who require more storage capacity, or new owners who don’t want to pony up premium fees for less than premium storage. Granted, the unit’s new interface changes have been well thought-out and prove welcome additions, but do require some tweaking on Apple’s end in order to make the system more responsive. The upshot being as follows: While nothing about the iPod... Read more
The iPod Classic is a refinement of the formula that put the iPod on the map. Few can match its combination of storage capacity, battery life, and advanced user interface. Read more
I've owned my iPod for about 4 days. I've been able to listen to music for 1. When I sync through iTunes it freezes, eventually giving me an unknown error. I've had to restore my iPod to factory settings twice now(I'm actually doing it the second time while I write this.) Since there isn't a built in restore I have to go to the public library to restore since I don't have internet at my home. Overall I'm not very happy. Read more
When all else fails, having an 80GB iPod is a lifesaver with an antsy toddler. We load it up with all his favorite shows on iTunes so that long car rides, plane trips, or even the occasional dinner at a family restaurant won't turn into a meltdown. Read more
John obviously has forgotten that ALL computers, including PC's, now have an approximate lifespan of 3-5 years.... 5 years from now, the iPod's we'll have will be smaller with much more memory. That said, the iPod is still the best in the market. With online firmware upgrades, any issues are usually resolved pretty quickly. Sound quality is EXCELLENT, and to get 80 GB at this price is a steal in today's market. Don't let the haters fool you.... I am a PC guy myself-- but... Read more
Classic by name, classic by nature! The standard bearer music player - huge storage, clear display and easy to use. The iPod is design icon and this version carries on the fine name, though like all previous versions it is a bit overpriced. All in, I would highly recommend it and recommend getting yours for free from the BBC and CNN backed Gadget 4 Free. Just copy and paste - www.gadget4free.com Read more
Love the new look. Apple incorporated the next gen iPod Nano look to the classic, brighter screen and the cover flow is nice and the way you can view albums and songs with the picture next to them. Best of all the price! Read more
