See moreThe third generation iPod Nano from Apple Inc. was released in September 2005. This generation of the mid-range of Apple’s portable media player product line comes in two storage capacities: 4 and 8 gigabytes. As with previous generations of the iPod Nano, it uses flash memory. The 4 gigabyte is available only in silver while the 8 gigabyte comes in pink, blue, green, black and red in addition to silver. The iPod Nano 3G is also the first Nano to support video playback.
Unlike the previous two generations which had a tall and slender profile, the Nano 3G is wider and shorter leading some to nickname it the iPod “fatty”. It now measures 2.75 x 2 x 0.26 inches. The change in profile was needed in order to fit a much larger screen for a better video playback experience. The screen is a 320 x 240 (QVGA) resolution 2" color LCD with LED backlighting that is noted for having the highest pixel density among Apple’s portable products including the iPhone and iPod Touch.
The third generation iPod Nano features a newer Operating System than its predecessors. The OS features a split display interface for better navigation, the inclusion of the Cover Flow style of browsing and a search function.
This portable media player does not have customizable equalizer settings but it does come with a total of 22 presets. It also allows for the creation of unlimited on-the-go playlists right on the device.
With the video and photo viewer, users can output videos and photo slideshows to their televisions. The photo slideshow also features simultaneous music playback.
Other features include games, read-only personal information manager (PIM) functions and a text viewer. Additional games can be purchased and downloaded from the online iTunes store. The PIM function supports syncing with Apple’s Address Book and iCal on Macs and the Windows Address Book and Microsoft Outlook 2003 on PCs.
See lessOn the whole, we like Apple iPod nano 3G. Some users may dislike its new proportions—but it will change, as they start using it. The player will be a good Christmas present both to men and women, especially considering various colors and low prices. When you choose between 4 GB and 8 GB, you'd better consider the more expensive model—4 GB is good for music, but it will be insufficient for video. Even the 4 GB iPhone was discontinued not long ago. Besides, the 8 GB... Read more

Still, if you can clear these roadblocks, the Nano is still one of the most enjoyable flash music players around -- particularly for joggers or space-conscious travelers. It just needs a manufacturer with more respect for the design philosophies that worked so well in the past. Read more

This is my second Nano (I have an older version) but when I saw the form & size I wanted to get this one. It is nice and thin and some sticks of gum are larger than this. The screen is clear & bright and I can actually watch videos that look okay on it. There is enough room for many songs and I put all my Greatest Hits records on it so I have a good collection of artists to listen to when I feel like it. It satys with me pretty much all the time in my purse so I can have... Read more
Overall, I think the Apple 4GB iPod Nano-3rd Gen (SILVER) is a good product. The color is simple and it gives you what you want. It's not to simple but not to complex either. It's a really good product and I believe Apple can be trusted with all it's products. Read more

I actually prefer the slim form of the previous nano but the new one does have better features, notably the ability to play videos. Although the shape has changed, it's still small and light enough to take with you on runs and other exercise activities. And the flash-based hard drive makes sure you ... I love the blue color and I think the 3rd generation has a more appealing appearance than the original Nano. It can also play video, very nice feature. 8GB can hold thousands of songs. I don't know if it is me but I do find the sound quality is also better than the 2nd generation Nano. One thing I don't like about ipod is the software. Itunes is slow. Moreover, it only offers synchronization so you can't add or delete songs directly on ipod. I found a alternative free... Read more
