The mouse measures 2.28 x 3.68 inches (W x H) and has an ergonomically sculpted design that is complemented by soft-grip sides allowing for better comfort and control. The design is also symmetrical so it is suitable for both left and right-handed users.
The Bluetooth Mouse 5000 features Microsoft’s High Definition Laser technology that delivers a movement resolution of 1000 dpi on almost any surface.
The ambidextrous mouse offers 4 buttons. Apart from the standard left and right mouse button, it has a clickable scroll wheel and a back button. Through the scroll wheel, users can navigate documents, spreadsheets, and web pages without having to use the on-screen scroll bar. The back button allows for easier navigation between folders and web pages. It can also be used to auto-scroll.
The Microsoft Bluetooth Mouse 5000 is compatible with Bluetooth-enabled computers equipped with Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows Vista, and Mac OS X 10.2.6 or later.
The mouse is powered by two AAA alkaline batteries that can last up to 3 months. This battery life can be extended by making use of the on/off button located at the bottom of the mouse. A battery status LED located below the scroll wheel allows users to monitor battery life. This battery life indicator glows red when the battery is running low.

by Rik Myslewski , Macworld.com Frankly, there’s not a whole heck of a lot to say about Microsoft’s small, attractive Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000, other than that it’s a competent wireless pointing device with little to move it ahead of other competent wireless pointing devices. You wouldn’t, however, come to that conclusion by reading the blurbs on the 5000’s packaging or its Web site, which brag of a thumb-activated Back button "to easily navigate between... Read more
Notebook mice are getting more and more popular. They offer 100% of the functionality of a standard mouse, but have it all packed into a smaller package. In addition, seeing that most laptop buyers are consumers that like to be unplugged and free to roam (hence why you buy a laptop), it just makes sense. Read more
The Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 is a great mouse that does not have extra bells and whistles but does the job using simplicity and compactness. The performance is quite decent for a small compact notebook mouse, and functionality is sufficient enough to do the job. Comfortable, sleek, and compact, this mouse is perfect for notebook users that have built in Bluetooth functionality. Read more
Given the fact that so few laptop computers have a Bluetooth transceiver built in, and the wide availability, greater comfort, and lower price of conventional wireless laptop mice, I can't see a good reason to choose the Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 over any others. Overall this is a good product that does exactly what it claims to do. However, there are better laptop mice for the same or similar amounts of money. Unless you have a specific need for a Bluetooth mouse,... Read more

"great device, love the bluetooth connectivity; no dongle hassle. Well, has been good until recently, this might be a unique situation but my scroll wheel just completely broke, its loose as if the teeth of wheel have been filed down. =/ By the feedback of previous reviewers my situation is pretty rare, just a forewarning. otherwise, good luck with you and yours." A decent mouse for Windows, but the Mac side is severely lacking (why I expected different from Microsoft I don't know). Control is ''sloppy'' and jumpy. It can be rather frustrating to click on small controls. NO drivers are included, Windows, Mac, or otherwise. Trying to locate the drivers on Microsoft's site is a pain. The fourth (thumb) button is totally non-configurable in Mac even after I found Microsoft's driver and installed it. If you want this mouse for... Read more
