This question is for melbelle80. You state that 700:1 contrast ratio is not a good number. What ratio would you recommend?

You want to get one which the lcd is a s-ips or if not that a s-pva or m-pva(Cheaper and not quite the color fidelity). Most of the under 500 monitors are tn panels and you would be unhappy with them for photo work. Response time is meaningless for photo work as the images are static. The stand alone apple monitors are s-ips for the most part. The nec is nice. The least expensive 24" monitor I know of is the hp 2465. $579 at New Egg.

i checked into the apple cinema displays, the 20" and 23", but with a 700:1 contrast ratio and a 16ms response time, those are not good numbers. The 20" is priced at $599 and that seems like a lot for the stats. It certainly is a pretty looking monitor, but not sure if it's worth the price for it to look nice.

My friend tells me it is the NEC LCD2690WUXI2-BK. It is more than the Lacie but I am told better quality and better product. For your price I guess it is the Apple Cinema. The NEC is over $1100. I am wondering what other opinions on this are. I am willing to pay for the quality of the NEC.
