Question: Types of panels and backlights, questions
Thanks for the nice writeup, but you didn't cover a) TN panels, and b) backlight type. I understand that most LCD panels use an older technology called "TN" and that the newest and best is something else. Can one tell when looking at a monitor on the shelf which kind it is? Where can I find this info on line? How much does it matter? Most reviews don't mention it -- I only learned about this from your User Reviews.
Re backlighting, I know that flourescents have been used in the past, and that white LED backlighting is the latest and greatest. The same questions apply: how do I know for a given model what kind of lighting it uses? I presume I have to research this on line, because the boys at Best Buy probably don't have a clue. I would think LED lighting would be longer lasting and more pure in color. I need high quality for photo retouching and color accuracy, but I'm on a budget, too. Your advice will be much appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Types of panels and backlights, questions
You can find the most information about any product just by going to the mfg website and looking at the specs..
concerning LEDs being pure in color, not really.. if you've ever noticed a white LED, it's got a blue tint to it.. there are some white LEDs out there that are pure white, but they're usually more expensive, and harder to find..
