The 226BW measures 16.6 x 20.3 x 8.6 inches (W x H x D) and weighs in at 11.7 pounds. The LCD monitor’s included circular stand does not allow for height adjustments but is able to tilt and swivel. For better positioning options and adjustments, third-party VESA wall or desk mounts can be used with the provided 100 mm standard holes. This Samsung monitor also includes a slot for a monitor lock for added security.
The 22 inch widescreen format 226BW has a native resolution of 1680 x 1050 featuring a fast response time of 2 ms gray-to-gray and support for up to 16.7 million colors. It has a brightness level of 300cd/m² and a static contrast ratio of 1000:1. A dynamic contrast ratio of 3000:1 can also be turned on via the OSD. The OSD itself offers comprehensive options for fine tuning the display. Samsung’s MagicBright 3 technology and its Magictune software are also included. Viewing angles are at 160 degrees for both the horizontal and vertical planes.
The Samsung SyncMaster 226BW offers a VGA port for analog video signals as well as a DVI-D port for digital. Although it does not have an HDMI port, the DVI input is HDCP compliant. With a third-party DVI-HDMI converter, HDCP-protected Blu-ray or HD-DVD content playback is possible.

The widescreen 30” LCD displays represent the ultimate in high-definition widescreen gaming and entertainment. The monitor’s specs are listed in multiple languages beneath an illustration and the box tells you everything you need to know about the 226BW when purchasing it. Inside the package box, there is the SyncMaster 226BW display itself; the base for the stand, the usual documentation (Quick Setup Guide, Snail-mail Warranty Card & Safety Information), and the monitor software CD. Finally, there are the Analog DB-15 VGA and Digital DVI-D cables, and naturally, the power cord. SAMSUNG SyncMaster 226BW measures 20.3” by 16.6” by 8.8”. The only visible button on the front of the display is the power button, which has a brushed metal finish, and gives off a blue glow around its edges when activated. The lower edge has a metallic silver inlay that contrasts nicely against the glossy black finish. Setup allows to enable or disable and to detect the current ability active connection. Information tells what the current connection is (analog or digital), horizontal and vertical refresh rates, and resolution. There are no USB hub/ports, built-in speakers or card reader on the SyncMaster 226BW and neither any Composite video connection. So if you want to hook your Xbox 360 up to it, you’ll need to buy an Xbox VGA cable. Quickly replacing regular 17-19” standard and widescreen displays, with a resolution of 1680 x 1050, 20-22” LCDs are considered the new budget/entry-level models. To keep costs down, LCDs in this price range usually lack the amenities—built-in USB hubs and ports, card readers, speakers, and “portrait mode” rotation—of their larger, pricier counterparts. With prices ranging from the mid $200 to $350 this is where the SAMSUNG SyncMaster 226BW fits in.

No one will deny the fact that Samsung makes great monitors. The original 225BW was hit with a rash of problems and with Dell's new 22" wide screen, Samsung's 226BW has some steep competition in the market. Read more
The SAMSUNG SyncMaster 226BW could really use an adjustable-height stand—even if it's just a simple telescopic mechanism that allows you to raise the panel up to an additional 6 inches. Although it's not common for displays this size and in this price range, it would have really been great if SAMSUNG had integrated a four-port USB hub into the 226BW (you can keep the cheesy, so-called stereo built-in speakers, though). In spite of the slick, new interface, MagicTune... Read more

Samsung comes through again, making something that came out to be amazing even better! That is one incredibly hard thing to do and Samsung seems to have that ability down pat! With the 226BW remaining under the $400.00 price point, this panel is an absolute steal, scoop one up for each of your family members. Crisp, bright colors with a blazing fast response time, and a size that is comfortable to look at. Personally, I hate to return this beautiful piece of artwork to... Read more

Most monitors look great for movies and pictures. What about for spreadsheets, word processing, and reading web pages? Outside of native resolution, which I find too small for extended use, most monitors are unpelasant to use. The wide screens in particular tend to have distorted fonts, depending on the setting. For text I found this to be so-so. Even turning down the brightness and contrast it was minimally acceptable. Instead I loved (and bought) the H... Read more
