The Asus P5E3 Deluxe is an LGA 775 socket motherboard based on Intel’s X38 northbridge chipset. Among its notable key features are the innovative AI Slot Detector and dual RAID capability thanks to the Intel ICH9R southbridge chipset and a JMicron controller.

With the AI Slot Detector, installation of PCIe and PCI expansion cards is made easier. On-board LEDs let the user know if they are properly installed without having to boot into the OS.

The ICH9R southbridge offers 6 SATA connectors with RAID functions in RAID 0, 1, 10 and 5 while the JMicron controller provides two more SATA connectors for RAID 0, 1, and JBOD functions.

Graphics

The Asus P5E3 Deluxe offers improved graphics capability through the AMD CrossFire dual GPU technology. And with the Catalyst Control Center, the user is given a real-time 3D rendered preview when tweaking advanced display settings.

Overclocking

For the overclockers, Asus offers the Precision Tweaker 2 system. With Precision Tweaker 2 chipset, FSB termination, CPU PLL and DRAM voltages can be fine-tuned in 0.02 volt increments. In addition, the P5E3 Deluxe also supports overclocking DDR3 memory to up to 1800 MHz.

The P5E3 Deluxe also features Asus’ exclusive AI NOS (Non-delay Overclocking System) dynamic overclocking technology.

Cooling and Energy Efficiency

Offering efficient cooling with minimal to zero noise are Asus’ fanless pure copper heat pipe design and the Stack Cool 2 fanless heat dissipation system. Helping with cooling as well as energy efficiency is the Q-Fan 2 system which dynamically adjusts CPU and chassis fan speeds according to system load.

Boasting of an industry-leading 95% power efficiency is the Asus 3rd generation 8-phase VRM design. In addition, the P5E3 Deluxe also features Asus’ EPU and AI Gear 3 technologies. These two features offers power savings of up to 80.23% by adjusting the CPU power supply according to its load.

Morry's Thoughts: The ASUS P5E3 Deluxe is a most impressive specimen, one of the most promising of the X38 chipset based boards I’ve seen to date. The board layout and overall design were well thought out, keeping with ASUS’ stellar reputation, with no real tight areas on the board. The onboard cooling system is massive to say the least, and seems to provide more than adequate cooling given sufficient airflow over the sinks themselves. The one area I had some... Read more

The ASUS P5E3 Deluxe is certainly a Linux-friendly motherboard, but it's not the perfect solution. ASUS does deserve massive props for being Linux friendly not only with this motherboard but on their other products as well. However, the WiFi-AP @n (AzureWave 802.11n Wireless) hadn't worked out of the box on Ubuntu 7.10. The P5E3 Deluxe hadn't beat the Blitz Extreme in all of the benchmarks, but of course this is a brand new chipset and we'll likely see some optimizations... Read more

The Asus P5E3 Deluxe WiFi is one of the most intriguing motherboards to hit the market in some time with a combination of three PCIe x16 slots, DDR3 memory support, great overclocking options and even an embedded Linux OS! Read more

The P5E3 Deluxe (WiFi-AP @n) is an exceptional product from ASUS and dare I say it once again, this is probably the best motherboard we have ever tested. Although the P5E3 Deluxe is very much like the P5K3 Deluxe and many of the other ASUS P35 motherboards, it does come with enough new features to make it a little more special. Sure the Express Gate, BlackHawk audio and Wireless 802.11n support might not be every ones cup of tea, but they are unique features and should... Read more
