System cooling features include a pure copper heat pipe design and Asus’ Q-Fan 2 system. The fanless copper heat pipe directs heat to the heatsink at the rear and promises to lower temperatures by up to 10 degrees celsius. Q-Fan 2 is a variable fan speed system that automatically adjusts fan speed according to system load.
For improved CPU and graphics power, the Asus P5E3 offers the Precision Tweaker 2 overclocking tool and AMD’s CrossFire technology. Precision Tweaker 2 allows the user to fine tune northbridge, Front Side Bus termination, CPU PLL and DRAM voltages in 0.02 volt increments. CrossFire, meanwhile, features improvements in image quality and rendering speed. This is complemented by the Catalyst Control Center, which gives the user a real time 3D rendered preview of changes in settings.
BIOS management is made simpler via the CrashFree BIOS 3, EZ-Flash 2 and O.C. Profile features. CrashFree BIOS 3 and EZ-Flash 2 allow the user to restore and update the BIOS from a USB flash drive. O.C. Profile allows the user to store and load several BIOS settings.

The P5E3’s overall performance was on par with other X38 chipset boards we’ve tested, except when we overclocked it to extremely high bus and memory speeds, where the little extra margin that the X48 brings can pay off slightly. Simply put, the P5E3 Premium takes advantage of what the new Intel X48 chipset has to offer and then some. Read more
Motherboard naming conventions have never been easy to follow, but Asus threw us for a loop with its P5E3 Premium board. Is it an even better version of the stellar P5E3 Deluxe that we reviewed in January? Nope. The board actually features Intel’s newest enthusiast x48 chipset, which is, umm, 10 more than the x38 used in the P5E Deluxe board. Read more
Morry's Thoughts: The ASUS P5E3 Premium is one of the fastest Intel boards I’ve seen, ever. The X48 chipset paired up with the board is a stellar performer, giving the board a leg up in both the stock and overclocking performance realms. The benchmarking numbers alone are enough to demonstrate this fact, with the stellar overclocking results acting as icing on the cake. ASUS did a fine job with the abundance of BIOS related configuration settings, allowing for massive... Read more
Conclusion: Overall, we were truly impressed by the features and actual performance of the Asus P5E3 WiFi-AP @n motherboard. Multimedia features of the board are simply amazing, and support for dual Gigabit Ethernet, as well as two wireless antennas with support for the latest 802.11n standard comes in handy. We tried really hard to find some downsides for this board and if we have to be really picky, then we would like to see higher voltage options available in the... Read more
