Asus P5Q Deluxe

The P5Q Deluxe is an LGA 775 socket motherboard from Asus that is based on the Intel Intel P45 northbridge and ICH10R southbridge chipsets. The motherboard features support for Intel’s Fast Memory Access (FMA).

Graphics

The P5Q Deluxe features AMD CrossFireX technology for improved rendering speed and better image quality. In addition, the board also offers the Catalyst Control Center utility. This allows the user to tweak their settings and check the effects with a 3D-rendered preview, all in real-time.

Overclocking

For overclocking the system, the Asus P5Q Deluxe offers Precision Tweaker 2, AI Booster and SFS (Stepless Frequency Selection). Precision Tweaker 2 allows the user to fine-tune the northbridge, front side bus termination, CPU PLL and DRAM voltages in small increments. AI Booster is an innovative utility that offers the user the ability to overclock the system while inside the Windows OS. SFS offers front side bus and PCI Express frequency tuning in 1 MHz increments.

Cooling and Energy Efficiency

With a heat pipe design and the Stack Cool 2 fanless thermal solution, the P5Q Deluxe promises much lowered temperatures. The heat pipe design also supports the installation of side-flow fans or passive coolers. The motherboard also features Asus’ Fan Xpert which gives the user the ability to adjust CPU and chassis fan speeds according to different ambient temperature.

The P5Q Deluxe uses Asus’ True 16-Phase Power Design which promises up to 96% power efficiency. The motherboard also has an EPU-6 Engine which adjusts power fed to the system according to load.

Other Features

The P5Q Deluxe includes Asus Express Gate which offers quick access (5 second bootup) to the most commonly used functions such as Internet access. With this feature, the user can surf the web, email or use VoIP applications without booting into Windows.

The motherboard also has two BIOS chips. With the DieHard BIOS system, the user can easily restore the corrupted BIOS with the backup.

Is it of no surprise that Intel has released its new chipset to the world. It seems nowadays we don’t really get much of a chance to settle into one new product before another is announced and released into the wild. It also makes buying a PC component a lot harder these days. Read more

Back when we tested the ASUS P5Q3 Deluxe it quickly became obvious that the P45 was a winner, improving on the performance and efficiency of the original P35 chipset. When armed with DDR2 memory the P45 is just as lethal, matching the more expensive X48 chipset every step of the way. The P5Q Deluxe is expected to retail for a little over $200 US, making it a great value option for those looking to upgrade to the new Intel 45nm processors. The 65nm design of the P45 was...
