The memory card slot and USB connectors lets you share your favorite videos with your friends, as well as use your DivX encoded videos in either car or living room.
Enabling you to save larger files such as trailers, music videos and movies, Divx is not supported by many, if not most portable DVD players so this is an added bonus with the Philips portable here.
The Philips has truly excellent image quality and the design is very stylish, as well as being extraordinarily well built to withstand those things that it shouldn’t have to withstand.
It will accept playback of video and image files from portable hard drives which makes it aces in our book, however in comparison to other brands of portable DVD players its a bit on the high priced side, retailing at low end at about 249 USD.
The only real down side that we can find with the Philips is that the batter life is quite a bit less than is advertised. The advertised battery life is 5 hours, and what we’ve seen so far is just under four. In fairness you could try using power save and turning the bright down on the screen to see if that affects battery life. Playing movies from your portable hard drives via USB port means not carrying your DVD’s with you, which is a great feature.

An 8" Memorex is $99 at Target. Nice unit but a dull screen, like most, compared to Philips and Sony, and if you don't want a dull screen then I doubt you want a squinter's screen either. I.e. I don't see paying $160 for an 8" Sony when you can get this 10" Philips for $230. I.e. if you need a portable DVD then I suggest either $99 for the 8" Memorex MVDP-1085 if you just want to make do--or $230 for this 10" Philips if you want somewhat to approximate a good viewing... Good product does what we expected it to do, play dvds and cds. So do many others at a third the price. Ads built it up to be more than it is, but otherwise it is a good player. This player is _mostly_ good. There are a few things about it that I wish were different. Mostly, I bought it for car video for my kids. They aren't old enough to be able to tell the difference between DVD quality and VCD quality, so the main audience is easy to please. That said, it does have a very nice display. The sound quality is pretty good (considering the tiny speakers). In addition, the sound has a great range from very soft to very loud. One thing that I didn't... Read more
