The Philips PET830 is a shockproof portable DVD player that measures 10.03 x 6.69 x 1.22 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 2.1 pounds. It features an 8.5-inch anti-glare polarizer LCD TFT screen with a resolution of 480 x 234 pixels. The display has a brightness range of 200cd/m2, a typical contrast ratio of 250:1, a pixel pitch of 0.13(W) x 0.45(H), and a typical response time of 30ms.

The player is equipped with NTSC and PAL video disc playback systems that support DVD, Picture CD, SVCD, Video CD, DVD-R/-RW, MP3-CD, CD-R/CD-RW, WMA, DVD+R/+RW, and CD media types. It also supports MPEG-4 and DivX video compression formats as well as Dolby Digital, MP3, and WMA audio compression formats.

The PET830 features an audio system that has an output power of 250mW RMS through its built-in speakers and 10mW RMS through the headphone jack. The system’s signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) is >70 dB through the built-in speakers, >76 dB through the headphone jacks, and >80 dB through the audio line out.

When playing either audio or video, the PET830 features a number of playback features including A-B Repeat, Angle, Disc Menu, Fast Backward, Fast Forward, OSD, Repeat, Shuffle Play, Slow Backward, Slow Forward, and Zoom.

The player comes with a 9-volt DC in, two 3.5mm stereo headphone jacks, a composite AV input, and a USB port. Its outputs include one for digital coaxial audio and one for composite AV.

Other features of the Philips PET830 are its Zero Bright Dot for high quality images and its multi-lingual support (English, French, German, Spanish). It comes with a number of accessories including a slim remote control, a smart car mount, and a cigarette outlet adapter.
