With the Sony's User picture adjustment mode and Low Color Temperature preset selected, its grayscale tracked within ±729 degrees kelvin of the 6,500 K standard from 20 to 100 IRE, which is below-average performance. Adjustments to the red, green, and blue Gain and Bias settings in the projector's Custom color-temperature menu removed the reddish grayscale tint and resulted in a much improved ±128 K grayscale tracking from 20 to 100 IRE. Color-decoder tests showed -5%... Read more
Overall, I like the Sony AW15 and would recommend it subject to two important caveats: (1) it must be used in a dark viewing space to get the true contrast benefit from it, and (2) the viewer must sit at a distance of at least 1.8x the screen width in order to eliminate the intrusion of pixelation and screendoor effects. However, if you have a theater room that can accommodate these requirements, the AW15 is capable of producing a beautiful picture for the money. Read more
Until recently, Sony's popular LCD video projectors carried the Cineza brand name. Apart from the fact that I always wanted to say, "bless you" whenever someone said Cineza, it was perfectly fine name. But Sony has now extended the "BRAVIA" moniker, once used to designate only its flat panel displays, across its line of displays. Read more
As I have said, several times, it is the Sony's natural and pleasing image quality (and good sharpness), that is the one area where the Sony stands out. I've had the projector for a year and it needed repaired twice already. The 3 blinking red lights would come on...the first repair was to replace the bulb and this was only after 250 hours of use. The second repair I'm still waiting for the return, but I know they had to order parts......the projector displays a beautiful picture, I'm just wary about buying another Sony projector...been stung twice now. I am very very satisfied with this purchase. I had been researching this product for weeks (almost months). I'm most impressed with the brightness and contrast. I specifically experimented watching it during the day with lots of light (as much as I could allow) and had no problems. So far I've only watched HDTV (and obviously some standard TV channels). Looking forward to putting a Blu-Ray on and having a movie night. Read more

This is my first projector, so my only comparison is to an older Panasonic projector at a friends house, and a Mits HC1500 that I compared at a store. Let me bring up a couple of things. I have the projector in a room with full light control (no windows), and in this application brightness doesn't matter as much as contrast, and this projector has great contrast. Also, this projector doesn't get enough credit for doing a great job at upconverting 480p DVD video. The Sony... Read more
