For the benefit of other greybeards like myself who may still want to be able to play their old vinyl, I should like to add that of the STR-DG520, STR-DG720, STR-DG820 and STR-DG920, only the last-named has a phono input! Read more

This was purchased for use in my bedroom in a modest AV system. The TV is able to switch the video between my two sources ( DirecTV and DVD ). This sony reciever switches the audio. While this receiver is capable of 5.1, my needs were for 2.1 in my bedroom + 2 in-wall speakers in my bath area. This receiver makes this work perfectly. The 'B' or rear channels can be set up as a stereo pair by selecting the proper sound field setting. This sony replaced an older (and... Read more

I installed this unit to replace an older RCA surround unit that didn't have HDMI connections for my new HD LCD TV and SONY BLUERAY player. It seems to have a problem with the RCA surround system speakers. It keeps going in to PROTECT MODE and turning off, what a pain in the middle of a movie. I never had this problem with the RCA unit. But I wanted to go all SONY to cut down on my remotes. Comment (1) Read more

"This receiver is great sounding and works great.I watched "the incredible hulk" on blu-ray and the sound was amazing and shook the house.Anybody who says anything bad about this must not know how to hook up a system or has it hooked up to bad speakers. The only bad thing is the sound is not carried through the hdmi cable so u have to use a a digital optical cable which is not a big deal and i knew that when i bought it.But anyways,u can not go wrong with this receiver." I started looking to replace my 5 year old HTIB with a current technology HTIB to compliment my 1080p TV. However, after much research, both on the web and on foot, I found that I could put together a better system for the same cost or less. The challenge was to get the best for the least amount of money. The Sony STR-DG520 met all of my requirements with regard to the cost to benefit ratio. The HDMI works flawlessly, the digital audio is full and pronounced. I am... Read more
