The voice recorder measures 1.5 x 4.0 x 0.8 inches (W x H x D) and has a 23 mm x 25 mm LCD screen. The VN-4100PC is powered by two AAA batteries and has a rated battery life of approximately 25 hours on standard alkaline batteries and about 15 hours on NiMH rechargeable batteries. With batteries, the device weighs 2.22 ounces.
In addition to the built-in microphone and a 28 mm diameter speaker, the VN-4100PC also has 3.5 mm jacks for plugging in external microphones and headphones.
The Olympus VN-4100PC is compatible with the following operating systems: Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, XP Home and Professional editions and all iterations of Windows Vista.
The recorder uses the CELP + ADPCM recording format and offers 4 recording modes. In XHQ and HQ mode, the VN-4100PC can record 11 hours, 40 minutes and 23 hours, 40 minutes of messages respectively. In SP and LP mode, the recorder gives a recording time of 47 hours, 20 minutes and 144 hours, 20 minutes respectively. The VN-4100PC also features timed recordings, allowing the user to program the device to start and end a recoding at pre-determined times.
Playback features include slow (25% slower) and fast (50% faster) modes as well as the option to set a file to play at a specific time.

I bought this because I needed a DVR for recording interview for several papers. I had hunted high and low for about two weeks for one and read every review possible. I chose this because the reviews were great and the price was even better. The product weighs very little, easy to navigate, you can listen to the recording out loud or with headphones, and I find that the uploading to your computer is super easy and the software is so basic it's also very easy.
