Olympus WS-331M

The Olympus WS-331M is a digital voice recorder that can also be used to store files and play music. It measures 1.5 x 3.7 x 0.4 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 1.7 ounces including the battery. The recorder is powered by one AAA battery that can last up to 21 hours of continuous operation. It also comes with a backlit LCD screen. The WS-331M comes with integrated flash memory of 2 gigabytes. It is compatible with Windows 2000, XP, and Vista and connects through high speed USB 2.0.

Voice Recorder

The Olympus WS-331M has built-in stereo microphone with adjustable sensitivity. The microphone also comes equipped with Variable Control Voice Actuator (VCVA) which starts recording only when sounds are sensed. It also comes with a Low Cut Filter which minimizes ambient noises for better recordings. Through the WS-331M, users can choose from three stereo modes as well as three monaural modes for extended recording times. The three stereo modes include STXQ, STHQ, and STSP which the three monaural modes include HQ, LP, and SP. All recordings are encoded in WMA format.

Storage

The Olympus WS-331M can be used to store different file types including documents, audio, and images. There are five folders available and each can store up to 200 files. Files can also be locked to keep them from being erased accidentally. Index marks and temp marks can also be used.

Playback

The WS-331M supports payback of music files in WMA and MP3 formats. It comes with a built-in equalizer as well as WOW XTTM technology which allows for 3D stereo sound and richer bass. The recorder also comes equipped with noise cancel and voice filter functions.

    The quality of the recording is amazing. I bought it for my classes and for meetings ...no matter where I sit, the recordings are very clear. Very asy to use. I did not purchase it for music so I have not been using it for that. This is definitely one of my better buys online. Read more

    "I used it twice a week in a 3 1/2 hour class. It picked up the instructor perfectly. AAA battery lasted a long time, but use the lithium ones to get even better time. Voice mode will play music but won't scan through songs automatically. In music mode, it will play an album straight through. It will not play all MP3s, but there's a way around it.     The features are fantastic on the WS331M, however, I will probably return it because it is too difficult to read the files in file menu and with the potential for 2GB of files in the model I bought it would get frustrating. So if that doesn't bother you, it is a great recorder, just don't understand why they can't come up with a better display if it can have so much storage. Read more
