In addition to some of its editing software it also features a Automatic Face Tracking software that ensures the face is featured in the front and middle of the screen.
Features
The Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000 captures images and streams videos on a 640 x 480 pixel video resolution. It delivers up to 2x digital zoom , so close up pictures and videos can be seen clearly. Images and videos are taken with a 30 frames per second that ensures clarity in images as well as the videos. The built-in microphone picks up the voice and transmits them via the video chat feature with its integrated Windows Live Messenger that is setup convienitely for use. In addition to this, with one touch of the Windows Live Call Button video calls are made, and the user is also able to see who is online. Photos can be uploaded to a blog on Windows Live Spaces with a few steps. Photos can be shared while on a video call using Windows Live Messenger, the LifeCam Dashboard offers editing features that include special effects and controlling the webcam from the Windows Live Messenger window, and the automatic face tracking software that ensures the face is featured in the front and center of the screen. A pan and tilt functionality allows a picture to be captured easily. The LifeCam is compatible with a range of IM’s including the Windows Live, AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, Microsoft Office Communicator and Skype. When purchased it is provided with a 3 year limited warranty. It is compatible with Windows Vista, Windows XP (SP2), needs 300-700 MB free, connects to USB 1.1 port or higher (2.0 recommended). Some of its requirements include 256MB RAM or higher, CD-ROM drive, broadband internet access, windows-compatible speakers or headphones and internet functions.

Summary:Camera equivalent to other 640x480 resolution webcams such as the Logitech Quickcam Deluxe. The microphone needs to be turned all the way up to hear normal voices and picks up large amounts of static. IMO the static makes the microphone unusable , Sure it's cheap, but you'll need a separate microphone if want the other side to clearly hear what you're saying. Took it out of town to Dayton to introduce great-grandmas to new baby in Chicago LIVE IN ACTION! Will not meet baby in person until 2 months old, so seeing him live on camera was PRICELESS!!!! Everybody wins! Used a conference room in public library, could control light and noise. Gave one to each of our kids when they had babies this summer. One each for desktop here and my laptop. Now we can keep up with the baby until we see him, and 2 new mommies can keep up with... Read more
