The D-Link DWA-142 is a RangeBooster N USB Wi-Fi adapter. The device measures 3.8 x 0.8 x 3.8 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 0.1 pounds. The DWA-142 is compatible with desktop and notebook computers with a USB 2.0 or 1.1 port and running on the following Microsoft operating systems: Windows XP with Service Pack 2 and Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4.

The DWA-142 is powered by D-Link’s Rangebooster N technology. It complies with the draft 2.0 specifications of the 802.11n wireless networking standard. With a Wireless N network, the user can enjoy up to 12 times the speed and 4 times the range of an 802.11g network, allowing the user to share high-speed Internet connections ideal for Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) calls, network gaming and for transferring large files such as music, photos etc. 802.11n is also backwards compatible with 802.11g and 802.11b.

The Wi-Fi adapter is simple to setup and use. In addition to the necessary drivers, the included CD-ROM comes with D-Link’s Quick Adapter Setup Wizard and Wireless Manager. The Quick Adapter Setup Wizard guides the user through an easy step-by-step installation process. The Wireless Manager helps keep track of the user’s most commonly used wireless networks and make connecting easier. The device also has LED lights for easy monitoring of network link and activity status.

For security, the D-Link DWA-142 offers support for WEP and Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA and WPA 2) data encryption.
