Linksys WMP300N

The Linksys WMP300N is a PCI expansion card for use with desktop and tower computer systems. This PCI network adapter enables Wireless N (draft 802.11n) connectivity. The WMP300N measures 0.9 x 4.8 x 5.2 inches (W x H x D), weighs 2.2 ounces and has an external removable antenna. It is compatible with the Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows XP (with SP1 or later) and Windows Vista operating systems. The computer that the network adapter will be plugged into must have a minimum of 256 MB of RAM and at least a 600 MHz processor. The network adapter comes with a 3 year service and support warranty.

The WMP300N Wireless PCI adapter complies with the draft specifications of the upcoming 802.11n wireless networking standard. With an 802.11n network, the user can enjoy up to 12 times the speed and 4 times the range of an 802.11g network, allowing the user to share a high-speed Internet connection and transfer large files such as music, videos and photos. In addition to offering increased range, Wireless N technology also minimizes dead spots. The user may actually get a speed advantage the farther away he is from the access point. The 802.11n standard is also backwards compatible with 802.11g and 802.11b networks.

Installation and setup is simple with the Linksys Setup Wizard. The Wizard provides a step by step guide to configuring the adapter to work with the user’s network.

For security, the Linksys WMP300N offers support for advanced security encryption using 128 bit WEP, WPA and WPA 2.

Linksys Wireless N WMP300N is perfect for your desktop when you don't want wire running all over your house. It took me less than 3 minutes to get this installed and connected to my network. I don't understand why some people are having a hard time installing on Vista. I installed on a 64 bit edition without any problems. NOTE - VISTA OWNERS: DO NOT INSTALL LINKSYS CD. -Don't follow the directions on the paper, it's for XP -Make sure computer is off, and pl... Read more

When installing the drivers, let Windows tell you there is new hardware and then point the installer to the Linksys CD. This way only the driver will be installed and not the terrible software that comes with it. Read more

If you think you are going to get a big signal forget it. I bought this for my computer thinking I would get strong signal from a low signal but it didn't work any better than my D-Link antenna. Maybe this works better if you have a N Router but I have a 54G and I do not recommend it if you are trying to increase your range. I do recommend The D-Link antenna which cost $40.00. It's better than paying 100.00 for this Read more
