It isn’t one thing that makes Knights of the Old Republic such a masterful RPG, but a remarkable amalgamation of brilliant gameplay elements, jaw-dropping presentation and a huge helping of that special Star Wars magic. If you are a Yoda-impersonating, plastic lightsaber swinging Star Wars nut, consider this the best game to be released since, well…ever. If you aren’t really familiar with George Lucas’ immense sci-fi universe, then don’t worry – this is still... Read more

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic originally came to video game retailers in 2003, and it is highly touted as being the best role playing game. The storyline in the game transpires approximately 4,000 years before the events of Star Wars Episodes I through VI and had a prototypical light vs. dark theme. A nefarious Sith army (led by Darth Malak) plans on overtaking the republic; consequently, countless Jedi Knights are slain. The ones that survived have defected to... Read more

Before really going on with the review, a slight bit of Star Wars History is in order, because without it, the game makes no sense to non-fans. Read more

A short time ago, in a galaxy not that far away, Bioware released a Star Wars RPG for the Xbox. Publisher LucasArts hasn’t had the best track-record with Star Wars-licensed games, but it hits a diamond in the rough every once in a while, and it’s games overall haven’t been truly BAD. Nonetheless, Bioware has the controls on this D&D rule-set RPG. Bioware has been known most recently for it’s “Balder’s Gate” series for the PC, which has been lauded by fans... Read more

Now as a Game Monkey, I am actually contractually required to nitpick about games I review (subsection 15 article VII- "Required amount of Poo Flinging"). The thing about Knights of the Old Republic is that my only gripes are nitpicking ones. They reuses character models, I'd prefer to be able to skip some cut scenes here and there, but honestly Who cares? This game is what the console Star Wars roleplayer has been waiting a whole helluva long time for. Bioware has... Read more

Star Wars, if all the geeky pus-faced Trekkies are to be believed, is a “wannabe joke of a franchise that should be seen as childish fantasy rather than a work of true science fiction”. If you can peel away the rabid fanboyism from this statement, you will find that there is some truth to it. Star Wars is a fantasy in the truest and most traditional sense of the word. You have your classic confrontations between the servants of good and the forces of evil, which are... Read more

Absolute rubbish - don't bother! Clunky old-style game - no action, no gameplay, nothing happens. One to avoid like the plague. Read more
