See moreDead Space is a video game that combines the elements of third-person shooters and science fiction survival horror-action games. It was developed by the California-based EA Redwood Shores and was published by Electronic Arts. The game was released on October 2008 and has been made available not only for the Xbox 360 but for Microsoft Windows and the Sony Playstation 3 as well.
Deep Space is set in deep space sometime during the 26th century. There, players take on the role of a space engineer named Isaac Clarke. Clarke works for a company called the Concordance Extraction Corporation (CEC) which operates giant mining ships across the galaxy.
The story within the game unfolds when Isaac Clarke heads of to a space ship called the USG Ishimura thinking he was on a routine mission to repair what seemed like a mechanical failure. Upon arrival, he and his crew are attacked and they quickly learn that the ship’s crew had been taken over by the Corruption. The Corruption is a virus-like alien infestation that turns human beings into hostile alien creatures called “Necromorphs.” In order to stay alive and progress in the game, players must fight off these hostile creatures.
The Necromorphs in Dead Space do not die so easily and, often, multiple gunshot wounds would not be enough to finish one off. These Necromorphs can adopt new stances and tactics depending on how they are wounded. There are those that sprout new limbs when wounded while others give birth to new Necromorphs.
A head-up display (HUD) is not available for players in Dead Space. However, the game features holographic projections that display the information that players need. Items can be bought and sold at an in-game store.
Because the character is an engineer, the player has access to mostly non-traditional weapons. These include a plasma cutter, a hydrazine torch, and a force cannon that emits shock waves. However, a riple-barreled automatic military rifle is also available to the player.

has received a lot of attention for its visuals, which are amazing, the audio package probably deserves just as much, if not more attention. Read more
What would you get if you created a game out of an amalgamation of some of the most revered science-fiction titles, of various media, from the past 20 years? As it turns out, it looks and plays something like EA Redwood Shore's latest survival-horror game, Dead Space. With an Alien-esque storyline, Flood-like enemies, Rapture-style environment, Marcus-Fenix-would-be-proud gore, and a speck of Jedi thrown in for good measure, Dead Space takes a near dead horse and gives... Dead Space, despite not having one truly memorable moment, is an incredibly well crafted game. EA Redwood made an incredible splash in the survival-horror genre that is sure to ripple through other games in the genre. The visuals are some of the best this generation yet, the soundtrack and sound effects are engrossing, and the twists at the end help to make it an overall well worth experience, that you will want to experience from beginning to end at least a second time.... Dead Space is a scary, intense, engrossing, and invigorating adventure into the heart of deep space. EA Redwood has produced EA’s finest title in years and their best original IP since the glory days of Road Rash and Desert Strike on the Sega Genesis. Just don’t hold it against EA for not including an extra pair of boxer shorts in the box. They had to draw the line somewhere. Now if only we could do something about that bitchy Karma. Read more
Many people doubted Dead Space when they heard EA was making it and there was certainly a lack of hype before its release. "Oh it's just Doom 3," or "Oh, what an Event Horizon clone," ran rampantly on Internet forums. But the bottom line is that Dead Space is not a clone. Dead Space stands alone in the survivor horror genre as the best of this console generation with its chilling and terrifying ambiance on the Ishimura, outstanding combat and a story that keeps players... If you're looking for a gloriously gory third-person action thriller that sucks you in from the moment you begin, then Dead Space is certainly for you. In nearly every aspect, Dead Space is flawlessly crafted. I don't want to give away too much of the plot, but I will say that it is better than those in most video games. The visuals are stunning - especially the dismemberment - and the creepy audio is so good that it sometimes has the ability to make one's stomach... Read more

Unsettling, in the very best of ways. EA, the mega–publisher behind such family friendly titles as Harry Potter and The Sims flips the script completely and delivers a bone crunching, gut wrenching tale of sci–fi survival horror that would make an Alien scuttle away to have a word with itself. Welcome to the claustrophobic, tense and downright brutal world of Dead Space – about as far removed from boy wizards and white picket fences as you can get. Players step... Read more
